Scenes from the water village...
The gateway to Kampong Ayer. This arch was built in 1968 in honour of His Majesty's coronation.
Typical walkway which is built with wooden planks above the water. This replaces conventional streets in Kampong Ayer.
Happy faces. The population of Kampong Ayer is dwindling as more and more inhabitants move to land. But the ones who remain are happy to do so.
The Brunei River, with Kampong Ayer in the background and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade overlooking it from Subok hill.

Hi anakBrunei, just wondering bout the first pic, the archway.. is that bushy tree behind it sposed to be part of the 'look' or has someone forgotten to do the gardening? Looks kind of 'ngacau' to me...
Btw, thumbs up for the visit Brunei 2008 site!!! I wanna see more...
Thanks for your support Elleorna.
From what I heard, the archway was moved from its original location some time ago which is why I lost my bearing initially when I was looking for it heheh. Its more of a monument than a gateway these days, hence the trees.
I remember it as the first thing you see as you drive into Kampung Sultan Lama during the old days...
